Interesting day. Tried to interview/shoot the marijuana clinic in Egg Harbor, NJ today. They seemed to be PR’ed out, so on to the next thing.
Mounted the GoPro’s on Big Blue and cruised down Pacific Ave @ Atlantic City. Lots of walk-overs to the casinos, will be interesting to see the take. Also been GoPro’ing most of the bridges that I’ve driven over. Golden Gate, Mississippi River bridge @ Vicksburg, Ben Franklin @ Philly, Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel and various others. Did 4 or 5 @ Pittsburgh.
Night shots with the GoPro’s on the Ben Franklin was interesting. The high mounted GoPro looked great with very little noise, but the low mounted/front of car GoPro had lots of noise. Not sure if it’s a metering difference or something not quite right with the front/low mount.
Got to go to the bridge on the ferry from Cape May to Delaware today. Used the 16mm full frame fisheye on the D800, not too bad distortion. Allowed me to show all of the bridge and keep the recording levels up with the Rode’s mic. The ferry was pitching a bit and as I hurried up the last set of steps to the bridge I caught my toe on the top step. OUCH.. lots of damage to me and as we discuss in photo classes to the students, KEEP the lens shades on the lenses. Camera’s are fine, me not so much. Maybe I should mount a lens shade on me somewhere.
Packing and un-packing is so much fun, plus everything that needs charging, ingest images, reformat, etc… whine, whine, wine?
or Godot.. hopefully the raw update will not take that long. Nokia has done a couple of recent ‘Nokia Camera’ updates in preparation for the new camera app. Apparently the next step is the phone update from Lumia Amber to Lumia Black. The Black update will allow the camera to capture raw images. Additionally the update will bring low energy abilities for Bluetooth 4 and some other goodies. Nokia is working on keeping the Windows Phone owners happy.
In an ongoing effort to get more 1020 images out there.. here is a link to my Instagram postings. A series of images taken with the Nokia Lumina 1020 of veggies and fruit in grocery stores.
Here is another example of an Pro__highres.jpg — 1st image is an uncorrected jpeg – 10 MB, next jpeg has a little sharping, drew down the highlights and bumped the saturation just a little, 12.8 MB and then the crop plus a screen shot to show the crop. Remember all images © Ed Zirkle 2013
Been on the road and have taken a break, catching up on some reading and found out that Nokia Lumina 1020 will have an upgrade to the Nokia camera app. Will be able to make 5 mp and a raw image at the same time. Just use your favorite raw processing program to tweak the image and save as a jpeg. Fun! This will make the 1020 a greater tool than it already is. Another discussion later on how I use the 1020.
It is so easy to make an image with this phone and now know that you will have a great file to work with after this update. Nokia just upped the ante with the 1020.
Love my veggies and while picking up stuff for poker night I grabbed a couple of shots to add to the 1020 collection. These are the files I’d love to have in raw format.
full 2 mp file
crops from the 2 mp files.. processed 10 mp files would crop better..
now these are 2 mp files and I’ll get to the 10 mp files later, but just imagine what a jpeg from a raw file would look like. I’ll just have to go back around the US and reshoot everything. So I’m looking forward to the new app and having raw files to play with.
And just for fun..
got my eye on you..
